jenn mierau

My new CD, hush, is now available!! You can order your very own copy here.
Digital downloads are also available, but the CD is an actual replication - front
to back and side to side - of the 14,400 stitch self-portrait that I rug-hooked for
the artwork. And when you order the CD, you also get a handwritten thank you
note and a magnet of the cover.

Here's a little explanation of the rughooking project:

     THE LATEST

catching up!

It's been a bit of a whirlwind the last month... CD release, POP Montreal show, Indie Week showcase in Toronto, and of course, a wicked transition-to-fall flu to add to the mix. So i'm just updating the website right now with some reviews and videos from the last month. Of note, The Montreal Mirror dubbed me the "DIY Dame" and Verbicide Magazine made me blush, saying "It looks like the world has proved its need for another singer-songwriter once again, and may many ears appreciate this truly vital record."

it's time!

My CD is officially out in the world today!! You can order your very own copy here. Digital downloads are also available, but I'd love to send you an actual CD, which is a replication - front to back and side to side - of the 14,400 stitch self-portrait that I rug-hooked for the artwork.

The release party is tonight in Montreal at O Patro Vys (356 Mont Royal East) at 8:00, and I'm on at 9:00... with Smoked Meat Fax Machine playing after. Would be ever so lovely to see you there!

You are invited!

You are cordially invited to the celebration of the release of my CD, hush. Your presence is requested at the esteemed Montreal venue, O Patro Vys, located at 356 Mont-Royal East. You will be regaled with music from myself, as well as from taperecorder and Smoked Meat Fax Machine. Festivities begin at 8:00 pm.

8 outta 10!!

Here's the first bit of what blogger, Grafton Tanner of TheBlueIndian.com, had to say about my album:

Dark and extremely sensual, jenn mierau’s hush (yup, all lower case) is an album that pulses with deep synths and trip hop beats. What is striking about hush is that it manages to deliver several catchy tunes composed of strange chord progressions and borderline atonal loops. Even more striking is that mierau self-produced the entire album. And by the end, you feel that unity, that togetherness that can only suggest one person had a say in its creation....

For the full review, either visit their site, or click on over to the "press" section of this site!
Thanks Grafton!

more lovesong lovin'

The blog, Cover Me, had this to say about my cover (thanks Brent Rydin!):

It’s hard to predict what tracks are going to become cover classics, but once one establishes itself, it rarely fades away. What’s more, once a song becomes as oft-covered as The Cure’s “Lovesong,” each new cover must reach an ever-higher bar. It might be another Adele, it might be another 311, or it might be something else entirely.

Luckily, Jenn Mierau’s latest cover is neither derivative of the original, nor a ripoff of the other established covers. The multi-talented Montreal native kicks the track off with a heavy electronic beat and some spooky piano before her mellow, sultry voice whispers into the mix. The cover would be nice enough if Mierau was simply a singer tackling an arrangement someone laid out for her. The fact that she wears the producer hat with as much talent as the vocalist/pianist hat takes it to an entirely new level. This is one for the headphones, because you do not want to miss a thing on this track. Enjoy.

poutine really is the best midnight snack

The illustrious Montreal blog, Midnight Poutine included my song, "hush" in their weekend podcast. They even used my photo as the "album art"! As they, themselves say, they do indeed put boy bands in their place!
Thanks Midnight Poutine!!

love for lovesong!

The Boom Boom Chik blog posted this amazing review today... i'm tickled pink!

"This cover of The Cure’s “Love Song” by Jenn Mierau is so amazin’ that I have to share it with you guys. She has added a whole new dimension to this awesome track. Beautiful piano melodies mixed with deep, wobbly bass and trip-hop drums make this track a keeper.

I had a chance to listen to her upcoming album, Hush, (set for release on September 13th) and it was fricking awesome from beginning to end. She has layered her Lykke Li-esque voice on top of these dark, electronic beats that won’t leave your head. The production work on this album is pretty awesome too."

You can have a listen to the track below:

Montreal show this Friday!

If you're in la belle province, allez-hop to my show this Friday night at Club Lambi. I'll be on around 9pm and there are 3 other bands playing. Check out the Facebook event page for all the details.

debut in Ibiza!!

My singing, that is. I was physically still on the "American" side of the ocean, but a Hollis P Monroe track that I sang on opened up Jay Haze's set at Ibiza this month!! You can watch the packed room dancing here. Thanks Jay!!

making my shopping list, so to speak.

well, what i'm actually doing is getting ready for my upcoming Toronto show at the Supermarket. I recently bought an RC50 loopstation and resurrected my MPC2000, so the beats are being made live! but there's been a wee bit of a learning curve! nothing like a little added pressure!! Here are the details for the show - if you're in Toronto on Wed. July 20, would be great to see you!
