human string art at St. Catharines' In the Soil Festival!

I had SUCH a great time at the Niagara In the Soil Festival in St. Catharines. Thanks to everyone at Niagara Artist Centre and Suitcase in Point for putting on a superb weekend! Met so many great people! Saw so much great art and music!! A highlight was Deanna Jones and her amazing The Keith Richards One Woman Show! If she's ever in your neck o' the woods it is a not-to-be-missed show!!

I played at the festival launch on Friday night and though it was a little chilly on the outdoor stage, the wonderful audience members who took part in my human string art project warmed my heart!! Here are some photos taken by the people who participated:

And here's a photo of my performance, taken by Ron. The visuals behind me were done by my dear Etienne, who was VJing and mixing live video of me playing as well as of the audience!!

Sun News has gone too far - we CAN respond!

I, as well as many people, artists and non-artists alike, were shocked and disgusted by the recent "interview" with Margie Gillis on Sun News that attacked this Canadian dance icon for the public funding she's received over the course of her 39-year career. Now it's time to respond in concrete ways, so I've compiled and summarized various links and information, in the hopes that by putting it all in one place, people will recognize the gravity of the situation and the importance of taking action. You can read all about it in my blog post.

must hear...

taperecorder artworkwas at an amazing show this week - taperecorder's album release - and came home with a gorgeous LP. super-duper beats and sounds from marc francis (who is taperecorder) and beautiful vocals from bethany spiers (who did an equally beautiful solo set as the feverfew). the night was rounded out by montreal's toboggan, with more beats to love. all three artists are worth checking out, so here are their digital homes:

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee float

was watching the olympics last night and flipped over to another channel during a commercial. 90210 was on, which is not something i'd normally watch, but what was playing was such a treat to hear: PJ Harvey's song "We Float" from her album "Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea." I've been thinking about that song - especially the chorus - non-stop since then, and was so inspired by it that i just had to write a song myself today. here it is so you can enjoy it too! and of course, you'll also be hearing the song i'm writing at some point.
